Buggin' Out is a slice-of-life short film, about two transgender bugs - Ant the ant, and Millie the millipede - going to the supermarket and talking about drama in their lives.
It focuses on depicting queer people in the UK with believable quirks and personal baggage. I originally challenged myself to submit an animatic to a Pride month themed screening, and to write more closely from personal experience.
The roughs were developed with the help of FilmLondon's Storyboarding for Animation intensive course, and received feedback from instructors like Jay Clarke (Aardman, Wes Anderson, Warner Bros), David Bunting (Moonbug, Blink Industries, Jellyfish) and Stuart Evans (Moonbug, Jellyfish).
The full film is slated to be finished and touring festivals between 2025-2026.

Rough turnarounds of the main two

Character design evolution - I came from an illustration background when I started. The initial designs become much more suitable to animation, after many rounds of revisions and feedback.
